How to Learn Multiplication With Music

How to Learn Multiplication With Music

Multiplication tables, once learned, often stay in your memory for the rest of your life. Multiplication is best taught by repetition, and an effective way to teach the skill is through music. Incorporating a little fun in learning can speed up the learning process. Children who have difficulty learning multiplication may progress much more quickly when you use music as part of a lesson. Not only will they learn their multiplication tables, but they may also develop an appreciation for music.

Instructions

    1

Go through the multiplication tables with your child using a times tables chart. Show the child the similarities between certain tables, such as the 2s, 4s and 8s. Have a discussion about the importance of memorizing multiplication facts.

    2

Choose a catchy song that children can memorize. Listen to a recording of the multiplication song together with your child. You may need to replay it a few times to get accustomed to the words.

    3

Print off the lyrics and practice the song, while singing it with your child. Choose a certain time of the day to teach your child multiplication, when there is less distraction. Keep repeating the song while looking at the lyrics, and then try to memorize it without looking at the lyrics or listening to the song.
