Whether it's for a public space or a home recreation room, a pool table can last years and provide hours of entertainment. But as the most untethered parts of the set, the actual billiard or pool balls can easily get lost. Even in situations where the balls go into a holding rack when they are sunk into pockets, balls can still get lost or stolen. Here are some tips for the inevitable replacement of pool balls.
Instructions
- 1
Check the size to make sure you're buying the right size of replacements. The standard for American pool is 57mm, but some other styles of tables handle slightly different sizes.
2Find out about the materials used for making your replacement set. In the old days, billiard balls were made out of ivory. Since that has long since become impractical, the best balls now are made from durable plastics and acrylics resistant to chipping or cracking.
3Get the ball set for the game you play. Chances are you want a standard American pool set of 15 numbered stripes and solids. The British variety of the game uses reds and yellows, and other sets are available for alternate games like Snooker.
4Consider training balls. If your table is used for more than just league play, you may want to consider adding a training cue to the purchase. These balls have concentric circles imprinted on their sides so players can practice sizing up angles.
5Include accessories. Items like triangles for framing up a set of pool balls and chalk for cues are sometimes sold alongside sets of balls. Replace these as necessary.
