Whether you're trying to match a piece of furniture or just adding a darker color to your space, painting a piece of wood furniture espresso brown is similar to painting any other furniture a dark color. But it does require special preparation, including the application of a tinted primer. Before you paint, check for imperfections in the wood so that you don't wind up with any dings or scratches when you've finished your project. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Wipe the furniture clean. Use a mild detergent, such as dish soap, and water. Let the piece dry.
2Sand the surface or apply a stripper to remove any paint. Scrape away the paint, using a putty knife if you're working with stripper. Sand the piece again gently with fine-grain sandpaper to make the surface completely smooth.
3Wipe the piece again with a damp rag to remove any sanding dust. Let it dry.
4Apply filler to any gaps or holes in the piece. Do not smear the filler. This will make sanding more difficult. Let the filler harden and dry. Sand the spots smooth. Wipe the spots with a rag to remove any dust.
5Paint or spray a coat of primer, tinted brown, all over the piece of furniture. Let it dry completely.
6Paint or spray two separate coats of espresso brown all over the piece. Let the paint dry completely. Apply a third coat, if needed.
