How to Update Pivot Table Data

Pivot tables have tools you can use to summarize large quantities of data in your Excel spreadsheet. The pivot table tools allow you to quickly sort, filter and review your data in a concise manner. Using the pivot table, you can pick the data that you choose to see and leave out the extraneous data that you do not need. After the pivot table is created, you can modify and update it if your data source changes.

Instructions

    Open Excel 2007 and locate the workbook that contains your pivot table. Select the "Office" button and select "Open." Browse your computer and locate the workbook that you will update. Once you locate it click on "Open."

    Click on the worksheet that contains the source data for the pivot table. Update the values in the source data worksheet. Add or remove columns or rows that are no longer needed. Click on the worksheet that contains your pivot table. Click on the pivot table. The pivot table tools tab will appear.

    Click on the "Refresh" button on the Options tab. Click on "Refresh All." Your pivot table will update according to the updates made to the source data. Quickly update your pivot table with future source data changes by right-clicking on the pivot table and selecting "Refresh."
