When implementing organic table decor, you can focus on an organic theme, use organic or environmentally friendly materials, or both. Even though nature-inspired table decor is typically associated with rustic or country themes, there is no reason why you can't have an organic themed dining spread that is elegant, chic and modern. Does this Spark an idea?
Linens and Tableware
An organic-themed table begins with the linens and tableware. Simple, elegant, botanical or nature print dinnerware provide an elegant, fresh feel. Opt for white or natural colored linens. Light green will work if you are wary of white. You can even look for reasonably priced organic or bamboo linens. White ceramic serving dishes add to the clean, bright atmosphere you want to create with organic decor. Clear, green or blue colored glass is another option, and it's renewable as well.
Vintage Items
Create a table that not only looks organic and green, but focuses on environmental sustainability. Search local thrift stores for vases, terra cotta pots for small flowers, baskets, bamboo containers and serving utensils. You may be able to use some of these for centerpiece containers. If you can't find multiples of the same item, don't be afraid to mix and match centerpieces at different tables. As long as you keep with a central theme or aesthetic quality (whether it's color, material or shape), everything will tie together.
Organic Themed Centerpiece-Favors
If you're hosting an event where party favors are appropriate, centerpieces that double as party favors are economic, space saving and environmentally conscious (since you won't be using more new materials). Fill your thrift store treasure boxes and containers with items like fair trade coffee and tea, organic soap (on some thrift-store soap dishes), vintage jewelery in small recycled boxes, preserves in mason jars or seed packets placed in small flower pots. Freshly potted mini-plants are also a way to add color and give a lasting favor.
Centerpieces and Decor from the Garden
Consider having vintage pots of edible herbs or grass for centerpieces, or smaller ones at each place setting. These can double as place cards by writing names on the pots, or you can group them together to form centerpieces. Topiaries, wildflowers, wreaths and single-stemmed flowers all provide a sleek, modern element to this style. You can also place fresh fruit in large, clear vases for a yummy centerpiece.
Tying It Together
Incorporate small details. Use twine or rope for chair tie-backs, or hang lanterns with tea-light candles from nearby trees if you'll be dining outside. Rattan and moss balls also make interesting table accents. Of course, serving fresh, organic foods and organic spirits and beverages will also help tie your theme together nicely.
