Do-It-Yourself: Coffee Table Centerpiece

Decorate your coffee table with a fun, beautiful, functional centerpiece that can be changed to match the seasons and your decor. It can also serves as a great way to bring the family together. Does this Spark an idea?

The Base

Find a tray at a local thrift store, garage sale or decor store. Ideally you want one that is 1 to 2 inches deep so you can keep things in it. Once you have your tray, you can paint it or stain it to your desired color to match the look and theme of your room. If you can't find a tray, a flat piece of wood will work, it will just change the function of your design.

Laying the Design

Glue puzzle pieces and or game pieces in various places onto your tray leaving the center free of any obstructions. This is where you are going to place the can or vase. You can also choose a deck of cards to glue on the bottom of the tray. Make sure you cut a piece of Plexiglas or laminate to place on top of the tray so your design does not get ruined if someone places a wet glass on it.

Filling it with Fun

Place a clear vase in the center of your tray and fill it with dice and dominoes so they show through. Fill it with water and then add the flowers. You can use any solid color flower such as, roses or daisies, to emphasize the contrast in colors between the black and white dominoes. To make this more functional you can skip the water and use silk flowers instead of real ones and it serves as a place to store game pieces, while adding some style and fun to the centerpiece. Other options, Monopoly pieces or marbles.
