How to Use Grass & Moss for Modern Serving Table Ideas

Serving table decorations and centerpieces help set the tone and define the theme for a party, event or special occasion. Grass and moss bring a natural element to your table that evokes springtime and renewal. They are also well suited to modern arrangements that will have an unexpected and pleasing effect on your guests. Gather materials yourself from outdoors or purchase flats of grass and moss from a nursery or craft supply store. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Place wheat grass and dirt into a square or rectangular glass vase, a glass cylinder, or a wooden box for a simple modern centerpiece. Another option is to put wheat grass in several small, square containers and alternate them down the length of the table with pillar candles, votives or floating candles.

    2

Glue moss to the outside of a glass votive holder. Go halfway, two-thirds or all the way up the sides and place a lit votive candle inside. Scatter the votives around the table or at each place setting.

    3

Glue or pin moss around foam craft balls. Embellish them with tiny pine cones, wild berries, small flowers or other natural accents. Decorate several moss balls in two or three different sizes. Hang them overhead with ribbon or fishing line, or pile them on a silver serving tray. Try hanging them with string lights under a market umbrella over your serving table.

    4

Fill a variety of glass vases with a layer of decorative stones, seashells or glass craft stones topped with a layer of moss and a candle. Dampen the moss for safety. For a fun submerged arrangement, glue the moss to the rocks and fill the vase with water, floating a candle on top. Make groupings of three or five vases with varying heights.

    5

Gather a large bunch of decorative grass, securing it in a tight clump with a wide ribbon wrapping. Pin the ribbon to secure it, as in a bridal bouquet. Place the grass bouquet in a glass cylinder, a low dish or another container of your choice, using decorative stone to hold the base if needed.
