Rec Room Decorating Ideas

Rec Room Decorating Ideas

Your rec room should be a space for entertaining friends and relaxing with family. In addition to all of your gaming paraphernalia, like a pool table, ping-pong table, Foosball table and dart board, you ca create centers around the room where guests can congregate comfortably, which is especially important for large rec room spaces. Use the rec room as your own personal gallery for displaying your favorite art work, posters and photographs. Does this Spark an idea?

Comfortable Furniture

Comfortable furniture is perhaps one of the most important decorative elements for a rec room. Provide plenty of armchairs and a sofa for getting cozy to watch the game. If you have gaming tables, offer stools for versatile seating that is also mobile for use anywhere in the room. If you have kids, purchase some bean bag chairs or large cushions for sitting on the floor.

Theme

Choosing a theme will help you focus your decorating while creating a memorable space to show off to friends. Create a 1970's lounge with shag carpet, egg chairs and bold colors and patterns. Create a 1950's diner feel with sea foam green, chrome and an old-fashioned jukebox. Choose a topical theme, like sports or cinema, and create a space that transports your guests to the playing field or Hollywood.

Lighting

Good lighting is important for a rec room, especially if it is in a basement without a lot of natural light. Provide plenty of different light sources. Use track lighting for overhead illumination, and place standing lamps by chairs and the sofa. Use strings of lights to add some cozy charm to the space. Choose novelty string lights like jalapeno peppers or mini lanterns for a conversation piece.

Chalkboard Paint

Cover one wall with chalkboard paint, and use it to keep score of your games. Keep a running tally of pool scores so you can continue the game every time your friends come over. Use your chalkboard wall for keeping track of the record of your favorite sports team.
