Kitchen Table Crafts

Kitchen Table Crafts

Kitchen table crafts are simple craft projects that use common items and are made by the entire family. The crafts are a good way to save money and re-purpose household items that would normally be discarded.

Seasons

Celebrate spring with a May crown made with fabric remnants and ribbons. Make summer walnut boats with walnut shells and string. Add masts and sails using toothpicks and paper. Place autumn leaves underneath paper and rub with crayons to create leaf rubbings. Cut out winter snowflakes from printer paper, and tape them to windows.

Holidays

Crafting makes holidays more meaningful. Cut out heart-shaped paper mouse valentines complete with whiskers and yarn tails. Help your children create paper grass, decorative eggshells, and knitted baby chicks for an Easter basket centerpiece. Create witch masks for Halloween tea lights. Use tissue paper and found branches to craft an angel mobile for Christmas. Cut out gold stars to attach to the branches.

Birthdays

Birthday party guests can make simple paper puppets or decorate their own party drums made from empty oatmeal containers. Help your child sew a birthday gift using remnant fabric for a small stuffed animal. You can finger knit scarves and belts for a winter birthday. And making handmade birthday cards is a simple craft for any age and skill level.

Considerations

Kitchen table crafts are right for any age. Supervise younger children with scissors and sewing; older children should help younger siblings. Choose projects that everyone can participate in and include plenty of time to finish projects and clean up. Use a craft supply drawer to help you organize all your materials. A few craft books will help with ideas for rainy days.
