Easy to Make Soccer Table Decorations

A soccer theme for table decorations presents many different ideas and options to delight soccer players and fans alike. Soccer motifs including shoes, balls, goals and uniforms can be created and incorporated into the table decorations.

Tablecloth

A green tablecloth is the perfect canvas for creating a soccer pitch. Use a fabric, paper or plastic tablecloth for the pitch and white masking tape, paint or white fabric strips for markings. Fake turf would provide an even more authentic look and feel. The pitch markings are easy to replicate. Put the tablecloth on the table and use the full size of the table-op as the field. Create a rectangular outline and add a line down the middle, a circle in the center, penalty spots and a rectangle and semi-circle at each end for goals. This decorating idea has the advantage of being interactive--before food is served on the table, children can play by flicking a ping pong ball around the field.

Placemats

Placemats are easy to make from paper, card stock or fabric. Print soccer motifs, images of favorite players or team logos onto sheets of card stock and laminate them at a copy store. Use soccer-themed stickers, patches, templates and rubber stamps on the placemats. Fabric placemats will last longer and can be embellished with simple motifs such as appliqued soccer balls and soccer shoes or with fabric paint.

Centerpiece

For an inexpensive centerpiece, make a round papier mache bowl using a balloon or plastic bowl as a mould. When it is dry, paint the bowl with black and white tessellating pentagons to make it look like a soccer ball. Fill the bowl with real or fake flowers, candies or candles. (Place candles in a glass bowl or vase inside the paper bowl for safety). A soccer trophy or cup is another festive option for a centerpiece. Tie helium balloons or streamers to the trophy or wrap a string of twinkling lights around it to add flair.
