How to Decorate With Old Trunks for Coffee Tables

How to Decorate With Old Trunks for Coffee Tables

If you have a case of wanderlust, transform a vintage trunk, such as a steamer trunk or a sea captain's chest, into a creative coffee table. The antique wooden trunk will give your living room a romantic, travel-inspired flair. The trunk will also come in handy if you live in a small space, as you can use it for storage as well as a coffee table. Put a family heirloom to good use or buy a trunk at a flea market or antique shop. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Position the trunk in front of a couch, where it will become the focal point of the living room. Set the trunk in the middle of an area rug to further set it off and to protect wood floors.

    2

Utilize the trunk's storage space by filling it with textiles, antiques or photo albums. Fold warm blankets and place them inside the trunk to have them on hand during cold winter days and nights.

    3

Decorate the top of the trunk to make the most use out of it. Display family photos in vintage frames, hardcover travel books, candles or a vase of flowers. Provide drink coasters to protect the trunk's surface from drips and condensation rings.

    4

Enhance the wall behind the couch with vintage items to coordinate with the antique couch and create a cohesive look. Hang a large mirror featuring an ornate gold frame, which will make a small space appear larger. Display black and white framed images or vintage porcelain plates on the wall as additional options.
