Decorating a Contemporary Apartment

Clean lines, extra space and neutral walls are the main features in contemporary decor. The colors of contemporary are neutrals, grays, black and sparse bright pops of color in accessories. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Check with your landlord if you are renting to see whether you can paint your apartment. If so, paint with a neutral color in white, tan, light gray or cream. You want your apartment to appear light and spacious. Let's say we are using light gray walls with black, white and red accents.

    2
Place a rug first, if you wish, in the furniture area.

Place a square black or dark gray rug in the room to designate the furniture area.

    3

Arrange the furniture with a black couch on the edge of the rug. Place a love seat diagonal to the couch with walking space between. Now put two square or armless chairs across from the couch. Spread these pieces out so there is space between the chairs and love seat. Put a small white square coffee table in front of the couch. The space is as important in contemporary decor as the type of furniture.

    4

Hang one piece of architectural art on a wall. Make this one red squares and circles all randomly glued together about 2 feet wide and 3 feet high. Place bright red and white pillows on the couch with red pillows on the white chairs. There are no end tables for lamps, so you can place a floor lamp if you wish beside the chairs. Put a black wooden bowl on the coffee table with red wooden balls in the bowl.
