How to Assemble a Changing Table

For many parents, changing tables are an integral component in a fully equipped baby nursery. Most crib manufacturers make changing tables to match their cribs, and most are fairly basic in appearance and structure. Almost all changing tables are comprised of a headboard and footboard with connecting, grooved horizontal support bars and shelves that slide into the grooves.

Unpack and identify all parts. Lay them out for easy access during assembly.

Lay one end piece on its side and attach all horizontal bars and shelf supports using the bolts provided. On most models of changing tables, there will be a total of eight horizontal pieces, including six grooved shelf supports and two support bars. Grooved pieces should be attached in the positions where the shelves will eventually rest, and the groove should face inward. The support bars go in the top position on the headboard. Some models may include wooden dowels to help hold the bars in place while you are attaching them. Consult the instructions for your changing table for proper placement of each piece.

Lay the end assembly on the floor with the horizontal supports pointing up.

Slide the shelves down the grooves in the shelf supports until all are in place. Most changing tables have three shelves. The thickest shelf is normally reserved for the top position of the changing table.

Line up the holes on the other end piece with the horizontal supports and attach securely with bolts.

Attach casters to the bottom of the changing table if your model includes them.

Attach both sides of the safety strap to the underside of the top shelf of the table using two bolts, washers and nuts.

Place a foam changing pad on the top of the table.
