How to Make a Spin Art Turntable

If you've ever seen a tie-dye T-shirt and wondered how you could make your own similar designs, then you need to consider spin art. With a spin-art turntable, you'll be able to produce countless amounts of wacky spin-art masterpieces. All you have to do is follow these simple instructions to build your very own spin-art turntable.

Build the Spinner

Put a dab of super glue onto an electric motor shaft, and then slip the pinion gear so that it adheres; follow up with another dab on the tip of the shaft, which is exposed in the center of the pinion.

Mark the direct center of the Styrofoam with an indentation, then squirt super glue onto the teeth of the pinion gear before you press the shaft directly into the center of the Styrofoam disc.

Strip both ends of the two wires until there's 1/2 inch of metal exposed; solder one end of each to either of the two metal tabs that protrude from the electric motor.

Solder the two exposed ends of the wires onto the positive and negative connections to the battery compartment.

Put some hot glue onto the center of the two foot-long 2-by-4s; sandwich the motor between the two so that they're arranged like train tracks on either side. The Styrofoam disc should rise an 1/2 inch or so above the edges of the 2-by-4s.

Hot glue the compartment to a convenient location on one of the 2-by-4s.

Put several rings of hot glue onto the top face of the Styrofoam disc; mark the center of the cardboard square, then adhere it to the Styrofoam.

Roll the poster board into a ring that fits around the entire device, and glue it to itself to maintain this shape. Set it on the floor around the spinner, and cut a small doorway with the box cutter so that you may access the power switch during use.

Put the AA battery into the compartment.
